AGROintegra's Action Group lays the foundations for a GIP Strategy in Navarre

Last 20th January, the LIFE AGROintegra Action Group met in Olite, which includes representatives of the partners, co-financiers and collaborators of the project, as well as other agents representing the agricultural sector of Navarre. The Task Force will continue after the completion of the project by setting up the Integrated Pest Management Platform (IPM) in Navarra, which will bring together all the key players in plant health.

The first point of discussion of the meeting was precisely the definition of the objectives of the future Navarra GIP Platform and the needs of the sector to advance an Integrated Pest Management Strategy in Navarra and compliance with the Directive on the sustainable use of pesticides. After an analysis of the current situation in Navarre, it was highlighted the good road already traveled and the advanced stage of development of the National Action Plan, which places us above the requirements of this plan. However, it was agreed that further progress must be made on these lines of work in order to respond to the growing demand for quality products, and that this must be done jointly and in a coordinated manner, with the aim of proposing economically viable alternatives to GIP. In this sense, there has been a recurrence of the need for experimentation to support advice from technicians. One of the most outstanding aspects on the part of all the attendees was the importance of raising farmers' awareness as a key axis, as well as continuous training for technicians and all the agents involved. It was also highlighted the need to boost communication and share experiences, as well as the economic aspects of the implementation of new techniques and tools to help decision making in GIP, especially the new Collaborative Warnings and Alerts Station that is being developed in the project.

The meeting ended with the commitment by the attendees to create a first document that sets the rules of the GIP Platform in Navarre as the cornerstone of the GIP Strategy, and with a forecast for a next meeting in March 2016.
